Details

Nepal has successfully completed the phase of toilet building in each and every HH and was declared as ODF in 2019. Post ODF, the challenge of managing safely the excreta contained in the pits or septic tanks in almost 97% of toilets.

In the pretext of successive failure to operate the wastewater treatment units constructed in the past (numbering around a dozen) in the Kathmandu valley, Nepali sanitary engineers are also focussing towards FSM which has been established as proven technology for managing human excreta or fecal sludge as more viable option for fecal waste / WW management.

NWSSTC/DWSSM has now developed a comprehensive training course on entire aspects of FSM in technical support from USAID/WASFIN project. NWSSTC is planning to rollout series of training programs for different categories of stakeholders like:

(1) Elected representatives / executives at Local Governments

(2) Public sector engineers who are bound to be engaged in planning, design, construction and operations of FSM systems.

(3) FSM system utilities operators, and

(4) Beneficiary community, FSM end product users

Public sector engineers engaged in WaSH activities are encouraged to express their interest to participate in the training program (2) above by clicking on APPLY on the Bottom-right corner of the CALENDAR tab in the NWSSTC website.
